Summary

Sponsors, regulators, and payers are increasingly using patient preference data to support their decisions. Conducting patient preference studies in oncology poses some challenges, such as small target populations or difficult trade-offs between aspects like quality and length of life. Drawing on a systematic literature review, Evidera patient preference staff will summarize current and best practices in conducting patient preference studies in oncology. The evaluation and selection of oncology treatments requires patients and other stakeholders to carefully weigh outcomes such as survival, adverse events, and convenience. The trade-offs that patients and other stakeholders (e.g., physicians, caregivers) are willing to make between such treatment aspects reveal their priorities and insights into their valuation of different treatment options. Preference data that is collected to understand these trade-offs can be used along the lifecycle of a treatment, to inform endpoint selection, refine target treatment profiles, engage decision makers (e.g., regulators, payers), or support post-launch activities (e.g., shaping treatment pathways).
