Richard has been with PPD since April 2007. He joined the infectious disease therapeutic group of PPD as a project manager, was promoted to senior project manager in October 2008, associate director in October 2010, director in October 2015, and senior director in April 2019. Richard is currently portfolio director for five registry projects – two open label extensions and an observational project in rare indications for one client and oversight director for a chart review project in infectious diseases. He has line-management responsibilities for two senior project managers and two associate directors within the group, along with developing bids and proposals and working on process improvement initiatives.
After leaving university, Richard worked in medical product development before moving to take up a PhD place. Upon completing the research project, he then moved into the commercial sector, holding various roles in technical business development, key account management, and business consultancy before rising to directorship level. Richard moved into the SMO sector in 1999, having overall management responsibility for three clinical research centers and then an SMO unit within a CRO. In these capacities, he gained experience in up to 65 Phase I-IV clinical trials, run to ICH-GCP, in the following therapy areas – urology, circulatory and endocrine disease, neurology, musculoskeletal disease, dermatology, mental health and the treatment of addiction, digestive disorders, and infection. Since moving into project management with a biotech company, Richard has gained additional experience in oncology while managing a study using a novel treatment for brain tumors.
