Stephen Peroutka
Stephen is a neurologist and neuropharmacologist at Evidera, a business unit of PPD. In his current role, Stephen is responsible for the strategic initiatives of the Evidera neuroscience group. He is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He has over 30 years research and professional experience in neuroscience that includes a medical internship at Stanford; neurology residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital; assistant professor of neurology and pharmacology at Stanford; and chief, neurology service at the Palo Alto VA Hospital. He established Genentech’s department of neuroscience and became its first director; founded Spectra Biomedical, a company focused on migraine genetics; and, has acted as independent consultant to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries for several years. More recently he was president and CEO of Synergia Pharma; franchise development leader for pain at Johnson & Johnson; and, chief medical officer at Zogenix, NeurogesX, and Semnur Pharmaceuticals. He has been on the editorial board of numerous journals and served as an elected member of the executive board of directors of the American Headache Society. He has presented over 25 lectures at international meetings and approximately 100 guest lectures at universities and institutes; has published more than 200 papers and edited four books. Stephen has been in neuroscience leadership positions within the CRO industry for over seven years and has been involved with the strategic assessment of over 200 neuroscience clinical development programs.
